About Dr. Peterson
Daniel L. Peterson, DPM, is a board-qualified and fellowship-trained foot and ankle surgeon who recently joined the team at Foot & Ankle Specialists of New Mexico. He is new to Albuquerque and excited to serve the community at the practice’s locations in Rio Rancho, South Valley, and Grants, New Mexico.
Originally from Wyoming, Dr. Peterson traveled the country to obtain advanced training in foot and ankle surgery. He received his undergraduate degree in psychology at Brigham Young University-Idaho in Rexburg. He then completed his medical training at Kent State University in Ohio, followed by a three-year residency at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. Dr. Peterson pursued advanced training by completing a prestigious one-year fellowship at North Jersey Reconstructive Foot and Ankle in Lyndhurst, New Jersey.
He has performed over 2,500 foot and ankle procedures in areas such as sports medicine, arthroscopy, trauma, deformity correction, ankle implantation, and complex Charcot reconstruction using external fixation. He has also published multiple peer-reviewed research articles.
Dr. Peterson is known for his kind, personable, and patient manner. He actively listens as patients describe their problems, and he enjoys helping them find appropriate solutions. He always exhausts conservative treatment initially but is highly skilled in surgical intervention when necessary.
Dr. Peterson is fluent in Spanish, having served two years as a Spanish-speaking missionary and five years as an interpreter. His other hobbies include running, playing the piano and organ, disc golfing, and spending time with his wife and two children.
